The place
The reserve is a UNESCO-listed forest of about 1.6 million hectares. Most visitors who reach it are going to Raleighvallen, where the Coppename breaks over a series of falls, or hiking the granite dome of Voltzberg.
There is no road to the falls. A chartered flight from Paramaribo’s Zorg en Hoop airfield to the Raleigh airstrip is the usual approach, followed by a short boat ride. A full river journey is possible and much slower. You need a guide, a bed, and a plan for weather.
Getting there
Treat this as a booked expedition with an operator who actually runs the Raleigh route. Traveling independently, without a host, is not realistic. Allow several days even for two nights on the ground, because the planes are small and weather cancels them.
Pair it with
Swap it in for the Upper Suriname days on the ten-day route only when a flight and a bed are already confirmed. It does not fit a short city break.
