Day trips from the city

Cola Creek and Berg en Dal, the easy escapes south of Paramaribo when you want water and forest without a multi-day boat.

The place

Cola Creek is a blackwater swim in white sand, on the road south. Families from the city use it on weekends. Go early if you want it quieter.

Berg en Dal is a former coffee plantation on the Suriname River, now a place to swim, eat, and look at the forest edge. It is a softer outing than Brownsberg, and a good last day before a flight.

Getting there

Both are south of Paramaribo by road, close enough for half a day or a full day with a hired car or a driver. Public transport is awkward if you are on a schedule. Agree a return time before you set out.

Pair it with

The last day of the four-day city route, or a gentle extra day after you come back from the interior.
